In South Sudan 85 percent of the labor force is employed in agriculture. With this in mind, South Sudan still remains the largest food deficit in the world, as one-third of its people suffer from malnutrition. In addition to malnutrition, food insecurity leads to environmental degradation, poverty, and a wide range of health problems. That is why Christians United for Evangelism, Education and Development (CUEED) emphasizes our agricultural programs so strongly: many facets of life in rural communities will improve as more people achieve food security.

The project is currently working with Rual Primary School where fifty dairy cows are kept to generate income for the school. One milking cow per a day is estimated to bring $3 USD. The school administration will sell the milk to the local communities, which will provide the school a steady income. The cows’ project for school is a continuous project and we are proposing to buy other more cows in order to increase the income for the school as this will help them to pay for teacher’s salaries and procurement for school learning materials and construction materials.

CUEED is seeking for more funds to introduce goats and sheep project at the family levels for orphans who have lost their parents from the civil conflicts and other causes such as HIV/AIDs, treatable diseases etc. Once all eligibility requirements are met, one orphan will be granted one goat and one sheep to be kept at the relative home, CUEED will conduct continuous training, monitoring and evaluation on the project, making sure that the intended project purpose is realized. CUEED is also proposing to distribute farm tools and seeds  (maloda, axes, hoes, and ox plough, Sorghum, rice, groundnut, millet, okra, onion, tomatoes, carrot etc) to the local farming communities as a response to their food security.

Our sustainable agriculture partners know well about the long-term food security in South Sudan is a battle that can only be won when villagers develop and sustain their own food supply. With your help we will be able to educate South Sudan’s farmers about modern agriculture practices while providing more adequate supplies and equipment, so that farmers can provide food for their families
