Illiteracy and lack of educational opportunities remain major barriers to the development of South
Sudan. Despite the progress achieved in increasing the overall South Sudanese many adults cannot
read or write. We believe that promoting literacy and education for South Sudanese children and
youth will help to ensure a promising future for development in South Sudan.
Our mission in education sector is to provide the best blend of national and international support to
inspire and secure continuous improvement in the opportunities for South Sudanese children.
Education is a key step to sustaining democracies, improving health, increasing per capital income,
and conserving environmental resources.
In prioritizing Education, the Christians United for Evangelism, Education and Development
(CUEED)’s work for the next five years will be focused on the areas in which we believe we can
make the strongest contribution, drawing on our unique role in education.

  1. We have defined this contribution in terms of six strategic objectives:1. Build school classrooms for all learners.
    2. Promote high-quality professional learning and leadership amongst education practitioners.
    3. Build the capacity of education providers to improve their performance continuously.

    4. Provide independent evaluation of education provision.
    5. Influence national policy through evidence-based advice.
    6. Improve our organizational capability and invest on education.
Each strategy exists to help the staff and our key stakeholders align their work to make the biggest
possible impact. When planning and delivering our work, we will use these strategies to ask
ourselves whether what we are doing, or the way we are doing it, can be further improved to have
    even more impact.

Overall, our work will contribute most directly to the following outcomes:
1. We are better educated, more skilled and more successful.
2. Our young people are successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and
responsible citizens.
3. Our children have the best start in life and are ready to succeed.
4. We have improved the life chances for children, young people and families at risk.
5. Our public services are high quality, continually improving, efficient and responsive to local people’s
needs.
