Tragically, thousands of children die every year from water-borne illnesses that are easily preventable. Where there is unsafe water, there are diseases. In the rural communities of Gogrial Counties in South Sudan, the need for clean water is extremely urgent and is one top priority for Christians United for Evangelism, Education and Development (CUEED).

Water is life! We support programs that provide access to clean water and educate South Sudanese about the vital importance of clean water for the prevention of diseases. Today many people do not have access to clean water and also they don’t have proper sanitation facilities in Gogrial Counties.

Polluted water and poor sanitation practices spread diseases such as diarrhea, cholera and typhoid etc. These diseases are generally bringing short and long health problems. Clean water, adequate sanitation facilities and better hygiene practices can prevent the spread of diseases and even improve nutrition, as people are able to grow more crops when water is readily available.

Collecting water is one of the most laborious tasks in Awan Pajok County and the task of trekking many hours to collect it often falls to women and girls. Providing easy access to clean water means that girls will be able to attend school instead of spending hours collecting water.

Christians United for Evangelism, Education and Development recognizes that access to water and adequate sanitation is a human right, and is a necessity for improvements in many other living standards. Therefore, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) will be integrated into our holistic community development programs.

Our water, sanitation and hygiene activities include:

  1.  Drilling boreholes and supporting communities to install water pumps so that they have access to clean water.
  2. Developing other alternative safe water sources, such as wells, and rainwater harvesting tanks.
  3. Building covered toilets, and sanitation facilities.
  4. Providing education on improved hygiene practices.
  5. Supporting training on food production and agriculture, including introducing systems which use minimum quantities of water.

Our Achievements

  1. CUEED has successfully sensitized the local community on the use of safe, clean and treated water
  2. CUEED has also managed to purchase chlorine and distributed to one thousand households in the local communities of Awan Pajok County in Gogrial.
